First confirmed Omicron case found in the U.S.



Breaking News: The first new Covid-19 variant Omicron has been detected in California.


The individual traveled from South Africa on November 22 and tested positive for Covid-19 on November 29. The person who was infected is self-quarantining and close contacts to the person have been notified and tested negative for coronavirus thus far. The individual was fully vaccinated and is enduring "mild symptoms, which are improving at this point," Dr. Fauci said.


The California and San Francisco public health departments confirmed the case was caused by the Omicron variant; B.1.1.529. The case is also confirmed by the CDC (US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention).


Experts and Health officials are urging people to get the booster shot if they are already fully vaccinated and if not, get vaccinated. Health officials are telling people to take extra precautions like handwashing and social distancing.
